NFL betting oddsmakers will be looking for which New York squad will make an appearance for the 2010 NFL gambling year as there looked to be 2 Giants squads in 2009. NFL betting buffs recollect that the 2007 world champs commenced last year in dominant fashion with 5 consecutive wins and no NFL gambling losses.
Right when the Giants appeared to be the front runner to take back the NFC tournament, however, they were eliminated at New Orleans by the ultimate Super Bowl champ Saints 27-48 in which all of their flaws were completely exposed, starting with a sieve like defense. The Giants won just three more competitions the rest of the year while paying out bettors only 2 times in that period.
The big question getting into 2010 is which squad should oddsmakers judge with the NFL preseason probabilities? The answers may go either way. While there is optimism based on off season changes there is no proof as of yet that those changes will create results.
Tom Coughlin entered the 2007 as the NFL head coach with the hottest seat and ended with a Super Bowl ring. This past year’s fall put him right back on the front burner, which could be a good thing since he has a history of fighting the fire with fire – with success!
“I don’t remember anyone saying I was on the hot seat when we were 5-0,” said Coughlin. “But believe me; the most intense pressure comes from within. The outside stuff doesn’t affect me.” Coughlin said that he’s going to sell his competitors on becoming “uncommonly good” in their preparation for action with the football probabilities in training camp. Coughlin introduced a firebrand defensive coordinator Perry Fewell in order to shake up the complacent unit and has challenged important competitors such as defensive end Justin Tuck to take a more assertive role in leadership.
Whether Osi Umenyiora will regain his starting spot on the defensive line for Fewell is among the big NFL betting storylines for the Giants going into the year. Umenyiora was benched in favor of Mathias Kiwanuka a year ago but is battling to get his job back.
When responding to how he feels about his relationship with the Giants, Umenyiora has changed in his tone. At times he demands to start again, occasionally he demands an early retirement, and sometimes he insists he wants to stay. Most a short while ago, however, Umenyiora has proclaimed that he was becoming “very selfish” for asking for a trade unless he was returned to his starting position at defensive end. He says now that he would be okay backing up Kiwanuka if that is what’s most effective for the squad. He’s recognized by now that he could not last another 4 years in the league, thanks to a hip condition and the reality that he’s attained everything that a football competitor may hope to.
Another big concern is to progress the running game in order to take heat off of quarterback Eli Manning, who was forced to try and win competitions on his own a year ago. Before falling to 17th last year, the Giants were the top rushing team in 2008.
