As there’s lots of potential for NCAA football betting surprises, NCAA football gambling anticipation might be off the charts in the Big East Conference. NCAA football gambling sports books have made Pitt the favorite but West Virginia, South Florida, UConn, Rutgers, and Cincinnati are also NCAA football betting contenders.

The Pitt Panthers enter into the 2010 year having lost the Big East title to Cincinnati a year ago as they headed the Bearcats 31-10 at home prior to struggling with a heartbreaking 44-45 setback to mess up their opportunity for a BCS Bowl.

Coach Dave Wannstedt has recruited well and replacements are gifted, though Pitt brings back only 5 starters on offense and 6 on defense.

Wannstedt is a former Pitt Panther who has been head coach at the University of Pittsburgh since the end of 2004. He had been a defensive coordinator for the Cowboys and regarded as a primary candidate for head coach when the squad lost Chuck Noll, but ultimately was edged out. He went on to be head coach of the Bears, following the renowned Mike Ditka, who was also a former Pitt Panther. He went with the Dolphins after losing that job, then left to be head coach of his alma mater.

The schedule is challenging with home games vs Miami-FL and West Virginia and road games at Utah, Notre Dame, UConn, South Florida and Cincinnati.

As they’ve got 16 starters back, the West Virginia Mountaineers are an terrific alternative to Pitt, but do have to break in sophomore quarterback Geno Smith. Noel Devine ran for 1549 yards and comes back as a first squad Big East player. Bill Stewart has gone 9-4 in each of his first 2 seasons as coach.

After he headed them to a 12-0 regular season, Cincinnati lost head coach Brian Kelly to Notre Dame. New coach Butch Jones has seven starters back on offense and just five on defense.

The Bearcats will again have an explosive offense that will make them desirable with the NCAA prospects and junior quarterback Zach Collaros saw lots of important playing time to gain valuable experience.

A squad to check out as a prospective surprise in the Big East is South Florida with new coach Skip Holtz, who replaces the program’s founding father Jim Leavitt, who was accused of player abuse.

Holtz won back to back championships at East Carolina and gets a gifted squad that brings back 10 starters on offense headed by sophomore quarterback BJ Daniels, who ran for 1029 yards as well as passed for 1983 more. This is a squad that has lots of potential even though they reached a plateau under Leavitt.

As 16 starters return to a program that has bowled 3 straight years, Connecticut could have a breakout year under 12 year coach Randy Edsall. UConn ended 8-5 and had 4 very painful close losses. With regards to the NCAA football lines, this is a squad that might bring lots of value.

Rutgers hasn’t reached the level of their epic 2006 year when they went 11-2, even though they’ve bowled 5 straight years. The Scarlet Knights return twelve starters as well as a promising sophomore quarterback in Tom Savage who was a freshman starter. A NCAA football betting issue for Rutgers might be their tough schedule.
