Mountain West will have nine teams on the board in the sportsbook college football betting.

Utah will be departing the conference while Boise State is coming on board, so that is the same amount of teams that they’ve had in college football probabilities at the online sportsbook. It looked for a while like the Mountain West could get several teams if the Big 12 disbanded but that did not transpire.

The Mountain West Conference thought they were ultimately going to be joining the BCS for a time there. The Big 12 had lost 2 teams, five more were talking about departing, and the Mountain West was hoping to only absorb the rest and include the high-profile colleges that would give them an automatic bid from the BCS.

Instead, Texas rejected the Pac-10. That decision alone pretty much much held together the entire conference, ensuring that Mountain West would pretty much stay right where they are.

The addition of Boise State almost makes up for the loss of the Utes, though the loss of Utah will hurt the conference. The Mountain West has stated that they will stay at nine teams for the immediate future. The conference would have liked to expand to 12 teams so they could get a college football conference championship match but that did not transpire. It was looking like the Mountain West could get some Big 12 teams but Texas determined to stay in the conference and the rest of the teams followed.

The Mountain West may still have the ability to get an automatic invitation to a BCS bowl match in the long run however the addition of three teams sure would have helped. It looks that the conferences are going to continue to be the same since Nebraska switched to the Big 10, Colorado to the Pac-10, Utah to the Pac-10 and Boise State to the Mountain West. The Big 12 and the Mountain West appear to be the huge losers of the conference shakeups. Neither conference has adequate colleges to get a conference football championship match.

Now the old fashioned way – winning it on a football lineup – is the only way for the Mountain west to get into the BCS. And that’s how it is done it in the past. They were only hoping to make it just a little easier on themselves with the addition of a few more teams.

The interesting aspect of the college alterations in the conference will be the timetables. It will be interesting to see how Boise State’s plan for future football seasons plays out since they’re a national football force. Utah is also a quite good football team and they should instantly become a contender in the Pac-10 when they join in 2011. The plan for Nebraska in the Big 10 will also be interesting to watch at the online sportsbook as the Cornhuskers have looked much better under head coach Bo Pellini. As soon as they join the conference, they could instantly become a power in the Big 10 in football.
